The Jelly Roll earned its name from the rolled structure preserved in this cross section view. This sedimentary structure was formed during an underwater landslide in a glacial lake. A section of sediment on the side of the lake was ripped up by the energy of the slide and the momentum of the event rolled up the section of sediment.
